Antioxidant Dietary Supplement Review

What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are natural compounds that are found throughout nature that neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are byproducts of cellular activity that can damage other cells or cause undue stress to the body. Antioxidants seek out free radicals and neutralize them before they can exert their harmful effects on the body. Powerhouse Supplements only provides top quality articles and supplements.

Why should I use Antioxidants?

Science has demonstrated that athletes or persons engaging in prolonged or intense exercise, need higher levels of Antioxidants than sedentary people. After intense exercise, free radical production is high, and a good Antioxidant formula can improve athletic performance, assist in recovery from intense exercise and support optimal immune function. Free radicals are blamed for everything from damaged skin and cancer, to aging. A potent Antioxidant formula is a must for everyone, especially athletes.

What research has been done on Antioxidants?

As with other supplements, Antioxidants have plenty of research proving their benefits. Antioxidants such as vitamins C, E and Beta-Carotene have been shown to neutralize free radicals that can cause damage at the cellular level. Vitamin C is probably the best known and the most scientifically supported of these antioxidants. Research on Vitamin E has shown that supplementing with this antioxidant can help reduce white-blood-cell DNA damage typically seen following intense exercise. Also, newcomers to the antioxidant scene, such as Selenium, Glutathione and others, have been shown to posses powerful antioxidant properties. With Antioxidants, as with Multiple Vitamins, it's not a question of whether they work, but rather a question of are you taking them?

What doses of Antioxidants should be taken?

The USDA has established certain guidelines for safe and effective supplementation for several micronutrients. However, as stated before, because of the intense stress and fatigue that often go hand-in-hand with athletes of all kinds, higher dosages may be required to maintain optimal levels of all trace minerals and micronutrients. Antioxidants are no exception.

What side effects are caused by Antioxidants?

As of yet, there have been no reported or known side effects from taking Antioxidant formulas. Thus no adverse side effects should be encountered. However, those that are allergic to certain ingredients should carefully read all labels before taking any Antioxidant supplement.
