5 Benefits of Running in a Group

Everyone has different reasons for exercising, weight loss, general health or just for the simple enjoyment. Running is an exercise that can take a lot to get into, some people prefer running on their own, with a partner or even in a group. If you're just starting to get into running here are 5 reasons why you should consider running in a group.

Accountability

In the beginning, running is a tough exercise to get into, it can take a lot of energy to build up a natural stamina but it can be tempting to cancel a run if you're going alone. However, if you run in a local group you have to show up for other people, because of the guilt of turning your fellow runners down, it’s less likely you’ll skip the meet up unless you have a legitimate reason.  

Consistency

In a group, you should plan when you are going to meet up and how often, with this, naturally you run constantly on a weekly schedule. Even if it is once a week your body naturally build a resistance and running becomes easier. The time and distance of the runs become constant also, you’re less likely to give up and go home if you're in a group.

Motivation

Likely the best reason to run in a group for beginners, your running group is able to spur you onto the finish line, if you’re ever struggling.  With running and other tough exercises, it can be hard to get going and if you have an off day, having people in your corning encouraging you to try again or push for that last mile.

Educational

It surprises most beginners that there is a lot of technique in running, being able to stretch correctly buying the right trainers and your physical posture can all be enhanced with some insightful advice. Sometimes you won’t notice issues with your technique or you might be wondering why you have sore ankles after a run, running groups offer personal advice as well as other information they may have researched. It’s an exercise that always leaves room for improvement, even if it’s something minor like what fitted tracksuit to buy for the winter runs or why you should wear mens trucker caps rather than a regular cap for ventilation

Social

With all the motivation, education and inspiration it’s likely that you’ll socialise with the group after runs or maybe just meet up another time through the week. Groups truly help to gain confidence whilst running, if you find that you're lacking the motivation to start running again, there are a lot of weekly groups that come together to run, some with paid professionals and other for locals looking for support.
